Dooty Mitt Romney

Hey! We're back!

Lot's of fun stuff happening lately!

At completion of 6 weeks, we decided to take last week off to do some much needed visiting and outings!

We visited Aunt Kelly and Katie's cousins, Jude had a sleepover, visited Katie's elderly friend George suffering from a fall, took a trip to a Mennonite farm in Kemp,  hung out with the crazy Genung clan, went on a field trip to Dallas Heritage Village with Paideia Homeschool Group, went to the Farmers Market in Dallas,  and had dinner Mormon style at Chilis!  Te he  Jeremy Fortune was the only male among a group of 9 kids and 3 women! We had some funny looks.

What a great time we had spending with family and friends!  Now, we are winding down from a week full of energy and getting focused back on school!

Katie is an incredible reader!  Her grades are near 100% on every assignment she completes. If you ask her, she will tell you she can't read.  It's funny how it doesn't seem like reading to her!  Her talent sounding out words, even difficult, is apparent when she whizzes through a page of words.  We are reading up to 40 or more words and sounds a day plus writing them out.
Our scripture memory verse today is "Be strong God is with thee" Deuteronomy 31:6a.  Katie was laughing so hard every time she repeated Deuteronomy.  I never realized how silly it sounds! She was saying it like Dooty-rom-ony.  Of course, we ended up with all different types of combinations for example Dooty Mitt Romney. I guess that will be the title of a future History assignment assuming the election goes well.  :)

We have been mastering vowels.  Today we did a cool activity.  I took toys and supplies from Katie's room such as a table(mini), pillow, wig, fish, dress(mini), cat, hat, phone, doll, cross, block, and tape.  I taped on the wall each vowel sound and had her sort these out under the correct vowel sound for the word.

She got them all right AND asked to do it again!

Dallas Heritage Field Trip was so much fun!  Katie and I finally found a group of homeschoolers that seems to fit us!  The museum was not only open but alive like a town from the early 1900's.  The children get to come and work for money.  Katie washed bottles and cleaned windows at the General Store, beat dirt out of the rugs, spun wool, sorted buttons, mowed grass, and delivered a telegraph. She earned enough money to buy a piece of candy at the General Store.

Grandma took Katie (and George, her beaver in the photo) on Saturday to the "pumpkin world" at the Arboretum!

As if that wasn't enough excitement, our family is headed to the Big Texas Shindig in Big Sandy Texas this weekend.  Lots of Homeschool families!  Can't wait!

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.  Jeremiah 32:40
