The Why Child

I have a "why" child.

You know, the one who says "why" all the time. "Why does this do this?"

Some people think a kid asking "why, who, how, or where" is annoying! And sometimes it is....:)

But when you are a homeschool parent that needs fresh ideas to teach, a simple "why" can be just the blessing you needed for the day.

For example:
Katie will say to me, "Mom, how do pigs keep warm in the winter?"

Well, Mom doesn't know the answer.  But Google does!

One time we drove by KFC and Katie said, "Mom, why is this restaurant named KFC?"  So we learned all about Colonel Sanders, his family, his career, and his divorce.  Which opened up a broader subject of divorce.

But what if I was too busy those days and said, "I don't know"?

When a child is interested in learning a subject, you can trust they will remember those facts much quicker than a radom subject they aren't inquiring about at the moment. I can say I know more about a pig than I ever expected to learn in my life!  And Colonel Sanders, he's a pretty interesting guy.

So do you have a "why" kid?  Take the time and effort to give them answers. Teach them how to find them! They will soar!
